Make a bird costume and become a giant bird, or make a flock of tiny origami birds in flight. Visit the raptors at the Leslie Science Center and investigate birds in the wild. Learn about migrations and anatomy. Build birdhouses and birdbaths, and set out food to attract the hummingbirds.

Travel in the depths of the wild. We will learn to survive anywhere, track anything and move silently and stealthily throughout the forest. We will learn the skills of building a shelter, getting water, finding food, and building a fire. We’ll learn how to take care of our needs in sustainable ways, so that the harvest will help the land around us. Will you survive?
Both age groups will work separately, but in a connected way, on activities this week, and will come together on Market Day to share their work. Activities will be age-appropriate, fun and stimulating for each group in its own way.
How would you like to turn a classroom into a city? What will your job be? Will you run a bakery, a toy store, maybe a pet store? Create your goods and open your store to the public! Your city will have its own money, and as you sell your goods you can also shop around the other stores in the marketplace.
In this camp, children use art, crafts, and cooking skills to manufacture goods to sell. As buyers and sellers in the city they develop number skills and mathematical reasoning, using money in real life scenarios. They will calculate with money, budgeting and experiencing cash flow situations. These concepts will be approached at a level appropriate to the ages and skills of the children. Older campers learn how to create salaries, track daily sales, apply taxes, calculate discounts and make change. Campers create an inventive, imaginative math world.
The sun is shining, the weather is warm! Come and make waves at some of the wettest and wackiest water parks Michigan has to offer, from Rolling Hills to Turtle Creek. Water slides, lazy rivers, sprayscapes and wave-pools – with zero-entry areas for those who like to get their toes wet first!
Travel back in time with us as we revisit a gentler way of life. See the buffalo grazing on the ranch, stroll through the ages at Greenfield Village. Want to go places? Relive history on the Huckleberry Railroad. Horses, mechanical toys, old-fashioned ice-cream – experience life the way your great-great-grandparents knew it.
Come make things with us! Be an apprentice to Leonardo daVinci himself as you figure out how to solve challenges using machines and the principles of physics. Catapults and tin-can cars, things that fly and things that float – there are no limits to the ideas you may have. Build inventions based on simple machines – maybe you will change the world. Build things up… and up… and up… or knock them down or blow them up… Physics and creativity combine to make an action-packed week of scientific discovery.
Water is joy. Making boats and sailing them, creating worlds of sand and sea, discovering how water changes to ice and steam and back again, making water wheels go round and finding out how locks work – water opens the floodgates of imagination and scientific play. Our campers will immerse themselves in an ocean of splashy happiness.
This week will be full to the brim with seriously cool scientific activities. From the Detroit Science Center to Impressions 5, by way of the Wind Tunnel and Dinosaur Hill Nature Center, you will push back the boundaries of knowledge as you travel to mind-boggling science destinations daily.
For one special week, Summers-Knoll becomes the mysterious castle of Camelot. Come to King Arthur’s Court and live each day in the legendary adventures of Camelot’s knights and ladies. Learn the noble arts of archery and horse riding. Take part in exciting quests, make music with the minstrels and magic with the mages, joust and juggle, explore the mysterious enchanted forest—and act out your adventures with a group of traveling players. We will hold a Medieval Feast, presided over by the King himself—will there be a Wonder to see before the Feast begins? If you ever dreamed of living in the time of dragons and unicorns, if you ever yearned for the days of chivalry, step into the world of legend with us.
Where did that rabbit go? For one special week, Summers-Knoll becomes the mysterious court of the Queen of Hearts. Come and take part in the amazing adventures of Alice in Wonderland. Take part in quest to find who stole the tarts, get advice from a caterpillar, play the Queens croquet, and plan a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party… There’ll be games, races, songs and poems, and wacky excitement for all.
