Wilderness Survival (Ages 4-12)

Week 1: June 11-15

M-F, 9:30 am - 3:30 pm, $240

Travel in the depths of the wild.  We will learn to survive anywhere, track anything and move silently and stealthily throughout the forest. We will learn the skills of building a shelter, getting water, finding food, and building a fire. We’ll learn how to take care of our needs in sustainable ways, so that the harvest will help the land around us.  Will you survive?

Math Garden (Ages 4-7)

Week 2:  June 18-22

M-F, 9:30 am - 3:30 pm, $231

Gardens are magical settings filled with aromas, colors, and patterns that excite the imagination and awaken the senses. Grab your gloves! We will calculate ways to design our space, and discover the order and patterns of growth as we tend our plants. A trip to the Farmers’ Market will show us how the math of economics applies to garden produce.

Campers will learn how to plant a garden, measure growth, identify patterns, plant in shapes, graph observations, find weight, have ridiculous fun trying to calculate volume and surface area, and of course taste new fruits and vegetables.

Recipe for Math (Ages 6-12)

Week 2: June 18-22

M-F, 9:30 am - 3:30 pm, $231

Each time you cook a meal or bake a cake, your math skills kick in. Calculations, estimations, measures and equations all simmer in your brain as you whisk up the perfect soufflé or create asparagus au gratin. Hone your skills in the art of food as you bring math into the limelight: make a pie chart of real pie, translate your recipes into scientific language, divide with fractions and decimals as you feed your friends with delectable creations, and so much more! If you enjoy math and love to eat, this is the perfect camp.

Campers participating this week will practice math in many forms while they learn cooking skills. Math in the context of cooking is easy and fun to absorb, and the hands-on activities make concepts clear.
