One of the things I appreciate most about Summers-Knoll is that we are a PK through 8th grade program, all in one building. As a result of this, and our mixed age groups, our student community is one that is relatively free of the unfortunate pecking order that I remember was present in my more traditional elementary and, separate, “junior high school,” experiences. This is especially true at the middle school level of our building where many of the students, by that point, have been in each others classes, across grades for a number of years. I’ve always felt that the PK-8 model, with multi-age classes, creates a superior environment for exploration, mistake making, collaboration, growth and learning, and, as it turns out, there is research that supports this perspective!
