Thank you for visiting the Summers-Knoll website. We hope that you will also come visit our vibrant campus, where teaching and learning is happening in all corners.
At Summers-Knoll, we focus on knowing every child well, providing each one with the individual attention she or he deserves. SK is intentionally small, with student to teacher ratio of 8:1 and class sizes that do not exceed 14 students. Our classrooms are also multi-age for all grades except Kindergarten. This encourages students to develop fundamental leadership and collaborative skills throughout their time at SK. All of this helps us to meet each child where they are, while nurturing and supporting them in moving to the next level. This is especially important for our middle school students (grades 5-8), when preparing children for the additional rigors of high school becomes a priority.
Our school emphasizes real world connection and, through this, creating a learning environment that is both meaningful and engaging. It is equally likely that you will see a students busily working through mathematical equations in a quiet space around the building, as it is that you will see them climbing through the woods in search of salamander eggs, or traveling on one of our school buses to travel to an historical site to conduct research. We offer a rigorous academic curriculum while encouraging our students to get out into the world, to apply their knowledge and understanding.
We want our students to be academically prepared, to develop problem solving skills and, perhaps most importantly, to discover and nurture their passions. Our talented and creative teaching staff specializes at facilitating this balance. To put it another way, in the words of one of our parents, Summers-Knoll specializes in “developing thinking individuals, not creating cogs” and I couldn’t agree more.
In summary (something that is hard to do when you talk about the expansiveness of the programs at Summers-Knoll school), Summers-Knoll is a deeply inspiring place. Please enjoy learning about our school here on this site and I hope to see you on campus sometime soon.
