Admissions
Preschool Admissions Process
Your child must be age 3 by September 1 and potty-trained.
Applicant Visit: Children applying to SK’s Preschool participate in a 30-minute, small group activity with their prospective peers and accompanied by their parent or caregiver.
- Current Teacher Evaluation Form: Parents are required to submit a teacher recommendation form if their child has participated in a preschool, or child care program. Recommendation forms are sent directly from SchoolAdmin, our online admission system, to the person completing the referral.
- Transcripts: The application checklist on SchoolAdmin will allow transcripts to be uploaded if applicable. We understand that some daycares and preschools do not provide this information.
- Additional Evaluations/Testing: If available, this can be uploaded through the application checklist via our online application portal.
Contract: Once the above steps are completed, the admissions team, which consists of administrators and teachers, will review all aspects of a student’s file (school transcript, teacher recommendations, child visit, and any other supplemental material).
Admission decisions are based upon the assessment of a child’s readiness and our commitment to ensuring well-balanced classes with students that would benefit from, and contribute positively to, Summers-Knoll. Parents will be notified via email of decisions.
Prior to relocating, in lieu of an in-person tour or open house, we can arrange alternative methods (e.g., a virtual tour, a video conference call) through which you can gain a deeper understanding of Summers-Knoll School.
Please complete our inquiry form, and we will work directly with you to accommodate your specific circumstances. We look forward to assisting you with the application process.
Young Fives - 8th Grade Admissions Process
-
- Prospective Young 5s / Kindergartener will visit for one full school day. Summers-Knoll reserves the right to request a second visit day if needed.
- Prospective 1st – 8th Grader will visit for two full school days. Summers-Knoll reserves the right to request additional days if needed. During their visit, prospective students will join their peers in the school day agenda (e.g., classroom instruction and learning, lunch, recess) and take a brief, online NWEA MAP screening assessment.
Items listed here are located in the application checklist which is part of the parent portal. The parent portal is accessible once an application has been submitted.
- Teacher Evaluation Form: Parents are required to submit a teacher recommendation form from their child’s current school, preschool or daycare. Recommendation forms are sent directly from our online parent portal to their current teacher as part of the application process. Once the application is complete, parents can access the “Current Teacher Evaluation Form (non SK)” as part of the application checklist on our online parent portal. If your child has not attended school yet or is homeschooled, this will be handled on an individual basis. At times a child may be enrolled in a class (art, dance, soccer) or may attend a church or synagogue where an adult is able to provide the necessary information.
- Transcripts: The application checklist on SchoolAdmin will allow transcripts to be uploaded if applicable. We understand that some daycares and preschools do not provide this information.
- Additional Evaluations / Testing: If available, this can be uploaded through the application checklist on our online parent portal.
Chat with a Current Parent: Prospective parents have the opportunity to meet virtually with a current Summers-Knoll family. If this is of interest to you, please follow the link in the parent portal application checklist.
